Coil binding machines are sometimes referred to as spiral binding machines, and are the most popular types of bookbinding. Companies are upgrading to coil binding machines from their old comb binding machines. Coil is more secure, and allows books to lay flat for easier reading and copying. Coil comes in three different sizes: 4:1, 5:1 and, 6mm. with 4:1 being the most popular and is ideal for all size booklets. 5:1 is ideal for calendars and small booklets. Coil binding is more durable than other types of binding and is great for booklets that must be sent the mail. Binding Depot sells binding equipment in either manual or electric models. If you need help selecting the correct binding equipment for you business please contact us by phone, fax or email. Coil is available in a wide range of colors and sizes ranging from 6MM to 30MM diameter with larger customs sizes available.
Pages are punched with round holes, coil is then inserted into the first few holes by hand and then can be either spun through the booklet with an electric coil inserter or by hand. After the coil is inserted you can use either an electric or manual coil crimper. The coil must then be cut the proper length and crimped so it will not spin out of the booklet when the pages are opened.
